Winter blast to bungle drive home

Metro is expecting 15 to 20 centimeters of snow starting mid morning and continuing through the afternoon before tapering off in the evening.

“The drive to work, or to school, is not going to be bad. But the drive home is not going to be very good,” said meteorologist Richard Zurawski. “Of course the wind is going to be picking up to 70 kilometers per hour and that’s going to create blowing and drifting snow.”

Drivers can anticipate decreased visibility on the roads and longer stopping distances this evening.

When the storm was being tracked Monday, it was too early to know how much of an impact it was going to have.

Environment Canada was forecasting between 10 and 15 cm of snow, while our meteorologist said it could bring more than 30 cm depending on whether it skirted north or south.

Now it looks like the province can expect something in between the two scenarios. Zurawski says it will be mostly a snow event with some rain on the South Shore and more snow on the Eastern Shore.
