The Liberal financial critic says he’s reserving judgment on Halifax’s proposed sports stadium and convention centre projects until he sees feasibility plans.
In response to a News 95.7 web poll Scott Brison says there should be a third option to the two proposed projects.
“Do you want to pay down the deficit and get the province and the federal government back to a balance budget sooner and maybe pay down the debt of our province and our federal government,” said Brison on Maritime Morning with Jordi Morgan.
Brison’s statement follows Defence Minister Peter MacKay’s words of support for a sports stadium in Metro. But the critic says he isn’t putting too much stock in the Conservative’s words.
“Minister MacKay, on the eve of an election potentially can say whatever he wants,” said Brison. “He doesn’t know how much this is going to cost. He doesn’t know what the proposal will be, because there really isn’t a solid proposal for federal investment this time.”
The Save the View coalition has written to MacKay asking that federal dollars be allocated to a stadium rather than the proposed convention centre. MacKay says a stadium shouldn’t be built at the expense of any other project, but says it’s something he’s “personally committed” to.
