HMCS Charlottetown deploying to Libya

The Halifax-based frigate HMCS Charlottetown is on its way to Libya today.
Family and friends gathered at the dockyards in Halifax to bid farewell to the 240 sailors preparing for a week-long journey to join an international flotilla off the coast of the north African country.
The Charlottetown is expected to join an American carrier battle group, led by the nuclear-powered USS Enterprise, and may assist with duties ranging from evacuations to humanitarian aid missions to a possible blockade.
News of the short-notice deployment came Tuesday, on the same day a Canadian military Hercules transport, en route to pick up stranded oil workers, was turned back from Libya.
The British have used one of their frigates, HMS Cumberland, to evacuate its citizens from the port city of Benghazi.
