HRM hires new CAO

The long search for a new Chief Administrative Officer for HRM has ended.

Council has voted unanimously in favour of adopting the recommendation of a search committee, which itself was unanimous in recommending Richard Butts.

Mayor Peter Kelly says Butts was hired away from the City of Toronto, where he’s been the Deputy City Manager.

“We had a strong team and he was very much interested in coming here and he likes what he sees,” says Kelly. “He sees the opportunity, and he certainly sees this as a chance to grow with us and help us plan and move towards the future.”

Butts starts on the job on March 28 at a starting salary of $285,000.
