A youth crime prevention program in HRM will continue with or without funding from Ottawa.
The Youth Advocate Program teaches life-skills to at-risk youths between the ages of 9 and 14, but a four-year funding commitment from Ottawa runs out at the end of the month.
Rather than lose the program, regional council voted on Tuesday to keep the program going at a cost of $690,000 a year.
The city has some existing funds ready for the program but it’s not clear where the bulk of the money will come from.
The Herald reports the city will approach the province and possibly Ottawa for funds to keep the program going.
