Organized crime in Spryfield has taken a hit, according to police. The RCMP and the local Halifax force say they’re charging two more people with first-degree murder in the December shooting death of 20-year-old Brandon Hatcher.
Hatcher was shot down on Lavender Walk after another shooting earlier that day and yet another weeks before that.
A 17 year old in custody at Waterville and 21 year old Cody Alexander Muise, held at the Burnside Jail, are charged with first degree murder.
Halifax Superintendent Stephen Sykes says the community came through.
“There’s this old saying that there’s safety in silence,” says Sykes. “That’s true up to a point, but people in the community don’t want people going and firing guns in their neighbourhoods.”
Police say the people they’re charging were noteworthy figures in groups likely linked to the Melvins and Marriotts.
“On the level of the gang they were in, we feel they were near the top of that level,” says Sykes.
The case isn’t closed. Investigators say the three charged with murder had helpm, and more arrests can be expected.
