NDP, PCs spar over minister’s TV appearance

The provincial Tories are trying to make an issue out of a television ad launching a new tourism promotion because it stars Tourism Minister Percy Paris.

The TV spot plugs a new contest that invites Nova Scotians to shoot videos of themselves talking about the best things in the province.

Progressive Conservative house leader Chris d’Entremont says having Percy Paris in the ad is the very definition of inappropriate use of taxpayers’ dollars.

But Paris doesn’t see it that way.

“Is it inappropriate for us to promote and showcase Nova Scotia? I don’t think so,” said the tourism minister. “We are building here on a campaign that just didn’t start with this advertisement.”

He says the allegations of impropriety are off-base.

“I’m dismayed and somewhat disappointed,” he said. “I just thought that the third party would be more supportive of Nova Scotians.”

The ad and the campaign called My Nova Scotia, are showcased at novascotia.com
