Rally tonight for SMU’s women’s hockey program

There will be a rally at St Mary’s tonight to show support for the varsity women’s hockey program which was axed by the university last week.
It starts at 6 o’clock in front on the McNally Main Building.
Several prominent SMU alumni like Councilor Sue Utek and Nova Scoita Sports Hall of Fame member Kathy Mullane will be there to try and drum up support.
Lisa Jordan founded and coached the team for 14 years and tells Maritime Morning’s Jordi Morgan, she understands it was a difficult decision but feels there may have been some oversights, like the overall benefits the program brought the St Mary’s.
She also hopes the rally will shed some light on the larger financial problems the university is having.
“Our university is in trouble financially and we want to be a part of the solution.” says Jordan.
The decision to cut the women’s varsity hockey program has not been ratified by the university’s board of governors yet.
