A 45-year-old Yarmouth woman suffered critical injuries during a dog attack on the weekend.
The victim walked into a home late Saturday afternoon and was confronted by the dog, described as a pit bull or pit bull mix.
She fled the house but the dog caught up with her and attacked. She received serious injuries to her face and upper body.
RCMP officers arrived and pulled the dog off the woman but because it remained aggressive, they shot it.
The woman was rushed to the QEII in Halifax where she is recovering from surgery.
Cpl. Paul Pittman tells the Herald one of the owner’s three dogs bit and hospitalized someone else before, but the dog was returned to the homeowner.
It’s not known if it was the same dog involved in the weekend attack.
