Warm words from Harper for hydroelectric project

Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke the most encouraging words yet for the Lower Churchill Falls hydroelectric project during a campaign stop at the Halifax Port Authority .
The PM called it an important project for Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and the entire region.
“It is a big chance to shift an entire region of the country towards greener energy and away from large-scale greenhouse gas emission,” Harper told gathered media and Conservative Party members.
“This has the potential to be a very important part of our efforts to fight climate change in Canada,” said Harper adding that more discussion is needed.
A government source says Harper will announce support for the construction of subsea cables for the project when he heads to Newfoundland and Labrador this afternoon.
His comments were made at Halterm at the Halifax Port Authority following a campaign promise to create jobs and complete free trade negotiations with the European Union by 2012 and with India by 2013.
Following the announcement the national media entourage criticized Harper’s treatment of news organizations.
“My question concerns the sense that you’re campaigning in a bubble sir, where you never meet a single voter who hasn’t been pre-selected by your campaign,” said CBC Television’s Terry Milewski.
“Your rivals in this campaign routinely take bunches of questions all the time and you insist on limiting our opportunity to ask questions to four, for the national media covering your campaign. I’d like to know why that’s so important to you?” asked CBC’s senior correspondent in Ottawa.
Harper did not answer.
While in Halifax, the Prime Minister stopped at News 95.7 to speak our talk show Maritime Morning with Jordi Morgan.
