Changes to Pharmacy Act to regulate, license technicians

The province is moving to license and regulate some of the people who help pharmacists count pills and mix medicines.

A new version of the Pharmacy Act defines the requirements for being a Licensed Pharmacy Technician.

They’ll need to meet certain national requirements, including education, practical expertise and passing a certification exam.

The Health and Wellness Minister says allowing licensed pharmacy technicians to dispense some drugs and do technical tasks will let pharmacists spend more time counselling patients
