Funding announced for 211 community services hotline

A new phone line to give Nova Scotians straight-line access to the right government and community services is on its way, with hundreds of thousands of dollars of government funding to get it started.
The phone number will be toll-free and simple: 211.
Halifax United Way President Catherine Woodman says calltakers will help narrow down what someone needs and give them contact information for the right organization.
“Whether that help is offered best by our province, a federal agency, a not-for-profit group, or the city, we just want to find the help that we need in a way that’s easy, humane and respectful.”
Corporate partners include Nova Scotia Power and Bell Aliant.
The system should be up and running in about 18 months.
