One member of the Halifax Regional School Board could be out of a job by the end of the month.
Sheryl Blumenthal-Harrison is facing censure for calling her colleagues “cowards” during a tense meeting reviewing several schools for possible closure.
At the regular board meeting on March 30, Blumenthal-Harrison tried to bring a motion forward to delay the closure review until other strategic plans were in place.
“They interrupted and revoted and said no, it was defeated,” she said. “So I turned around and called them a bunch of cowards.”
Blumenthal-Harrison tells the Rick Howe Show she was sticking up for her constituents, and doesn’t regret what she said.
However, she says she’s surprised by the board’s reaction.
“I might give an apology if I was asked for it, but the whole idea of the censure issue is just a little bit too strong,” she said.
The board can ask for a public reprimand, a one to three-month suspension or for outright terminatino.
Blumenthal-Harrison’s fate will be debated behind closed doors at the board’s next meeting on April 27.
