Council asked to approve funds for costly development

A development in Bayers Lake that’s been called a “calamity of errors” returns to regional council this week.

Councillors will get a staff report Tuesday recommending they approve funding needed for the second and third phases of the Washmill Lake Court underpass.

The whole project was supposed to cost $10 million but has already reached $11 million so far – and another $4.5 million is needed to complete it.

Metro reports the cost is higher than expected because contractors had to remove more rock than anticipated.

A heated debate in January over possibly abandoning the underpass ended with a vote to finish it off rather than let the money invested already go to waste.
