Several major construction projects delayed because of weather

You’re not the only person bummed out by the constant rain that’s been drenching the HRM. Construction companies are feeling the effects too and having to delay several projects.
“Any bad weather and when Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate with us, certainly can have an effect on schedules of projects, major projects,” says Construction Nova Scotia President Duncan Williams. “Especially large scale projects that are outside like concrete, forming or pouring. Or even road construction.”
Williams says the wet weather can make for unsafe working conditions on job sites and that’s the biggest reason for delaying projects.
“Job sites that are wet and cannot be contained or dried quick enough can present hazards for work being done in terms of welding or slippery slopes,” he says. “Even excavation equipment, cave ins in tunnels and so on. All of those factors come in to play.”
Williams says the delays could result in having to extend the construction season in to late fall.
