HRM’s contentious winter parking ban is up for discussion again this week.
A staff report going to the the city’s transportation committee recommends lifting the ban an hour earlier every day so it runs from 1 to 6 a.m instead of 7 a.m.
The report also suggests a trial period for applying the ban only when snow is on the ground.
Mayor Peter Kelly tells Metro Halifax he feels the recommendations don’t go far enough. He says the ban just shouldn’t apply if there’s no snow on the ground.
The transportation minister said last winter he’d consider changing legislation that governs the parking ban in order to address taxpayer concerns, however, Bill Estabrooks says at this point he still has no clear sense of how HRM wants to proceed.
