IWK staff doubles national average for flu shots

The IWK says nearly two-thirds of its employees got flu shots last year – nearly double the national average.
IWK officials say they’ve made access to the flu shot a priority for staff members, with big clinics that run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weeks before the flu season starts.
Spokesperson Leanne Dixon tells the Herald some registered nurses are also trained to give shots to employees while they’re on the job and discuss any concerns they have about getting the vaccine.
Capital Health also offers workplace immunization programs, but only 37 percent of doctors and nurses there decided to get the shot last year.
