Province has plan in place for cheque delivery

The province says people who rely on government cheques don’t need to worry; they’ll get their money even if Canada Post goes on strike. The Dexter Government has announced a contingency plan that will ensure all government cheques are easily available for the recipients.
As of right now, the government is no longer putting cheques in the mail. All month-end cheques for June have already been issued and delivered.
If there is a postal strike, future cheques will be available for pick up at Community Services Offices or Access Nova Scotia Locations.
Finance Minister Graham Steele says the province will also arrange for special deliveries via courier or staff if need be.
“I can assure you that the appropriate arrangements will be made,” he says. “No one will go without, and no one will be faced with additional hardship to get their cheque.”
Anyone who receives government payments through direct deposit will not be affected. Steele is encouraging everyone to take that route and sign up for the direct deposit option on their website: www.gov.ns.ca
If you need to get mail to the provincial government, drop-off bins will be set up at Access Nova Scotia Centres.
The province has hired additional staff for a call center that will provide assistance for people who have concerns or questions about government cheque delivery. The information line is available at 1-800-670-4357, or locally in HRM 424-5200.
