Driver’s licenses too easy to revoke? Minister considers changes

The Service Nova Scotia minister says he’s looking at changes to the Registry of Motor Vehicle’s powers to revoke licenses.

An East Uniacke man complained to the minister recently because his license has been revoked, even though he’s not facing any charges or suffering from any medical conditions.

Lee Wilbur of East Uniacke tells CBC he was charged after he tailgated a woman who was talking on her cell phone and driving carelessly last summer – but the charge was dismissed.

Even so, he’s been told he’ll have to undergo a psychiatric examination and a driver’s test before he can have his license back.

Service Nova Scotia Minister John MacDonell says the legislation may be too open-ended and he’s hoping to come up with changes by the fall.
