What is the Canucks mentality?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Just focus us on the process, not the outcome.  It may be billed as the biggest game of their careers, but SFU sports psychologist Dr. David Cox suspects the Canucks will stick strongly to their own routines.

“They’ll say, ‘This is the big game, the possibility here is overwhelming.’  But what they’ll do is they’ll focus on the process.  They’ll focus on preparation, they’ll focus on the things that are under their control.”

Cox says he thinks the Canucks have enjoyed this amount of success because they have high emotional intelligence.

“People like high-performance athletes are really high on things like emotional intelligence, which means that they handle moments of stress well, they know how to prepare well, and they know how to keep themselves focused on the task and to keep their emotions under control.  Part of the reason that they’re where they are is because they’ve been able to do this in the past.”
