Bruins ruin Canucks Cup dream

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Boston Bruins blanked the Vancouver Canucks 4-0 to win Game 7 and the Stanley Cup. For the second time in the clubs 40 year history, the Canucks have lost a Game 7 to an original six team.
Tim Thomas earned his second shutout of the series, making 37 saves. He was an easy choice and winner of the Conn Smythe trophy, given to the most valuable player of the playoffs. He stopped 238 of 246 shots he faced in the series. Thomas allowed just eight goals in his last eight starts.
Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand each scored a pair of goals to give Boston all the goals they needed. Bruins Captain Zdeno Chara was presented the Stanley Cup by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
Hometown touch
Vancouver native Milan Lucic has won a Stanley Cup in his hometown, to go with the Memorial Cup he won as a Vancouver Giant at the Pacific Coliseum in 2007. It was the third Stanley Cup victory for Kamloops native Mark Recchi.
Bergeron has won a Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold medal and World Championship gold medal. Roberto Luongo would have been the first goalie to attain that feat, had the Canucks won.
Here we go again?
The Vancouver Canucks lost the 1994 Cup Final in seven games to the New York Rangers.
For the third time in eight years, a Canadian team loses in seven games, but the Canucks were the first to do it at home. The Calgary Flames lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2004, while the Edmonton Oilers dropped the final to the Carolina Hurricans just two years later.
