Deer crashes through coffee shop window

A coffee costs about a buck, but it’s not often a buck comes with your coffee.
People stopping off to get a coffee at the Uncommon Grounds coffee shop on South Park St at around 8:30 this morning got a big surprise when a two-year-old buck who had wandered into the city, for some reason crashed through the window.
Reports say the animal flailed about in an obvious panic, with equally shocked patrons diving out the door, into washrooms and anywhere else the deer wasn’t.
Eventually it found a way out and according Department of Natural Resources Spokesperson Bruce Nunn that’s when it headed for the SMU Campus.
He tells News 95.7 it entered a construction zone and laid down in a building under construction.
“Our wildlife technician from Natural Resources went in with a couple of his colleagues,” said Nunn. “They prepared a tranquilizer solution which they used when they entered the building.”
Nunn said the deer reacted by jumping up and running out of the building before the drug took effect, and it passed out calmly in a grassy area where it was tended to.
“They put it on a board with straps in the back of a truck and made sure it was comfortable with a lot of cold water in a shaded area.”
He says the deer suffered some cuts during the coffee shop ordeal but adds the deer appears to be in pretty good shape.
It was taken to a wooded area and examined closer to make sure it was in good enough condition to be released.
