Police warn bar-goers about date-rape drug

Police are investigating the discovery of the so-called date rape drug in a downtown Halifax bar.  Police spokesperson Brian Palmeter says staff at the unidentified establishment noticed something was going on.

“Staff did a great job by observing the man and determing that he was doing something wrong,” he says.  “However, he fled when they tried to detain him.  They were able to seize a vial of the substance which was tested and turned out to be gamma-hydroxy-butyrate (GHB).”

Palmeter says the bar is not being named because it could happen in any place and the public is being advised to not leave drinks unattended or accept drinks from strangers without seeing the bartender mix them up.
