Tragic end to search for missing Fairview senior

The search for a missing Fairview man has come to a sad conclusion.

John Donald MacInnis had been missing from his home since Thursday morning.

Halifax Regional Police Staff Sgt. Reid McCoombs says a ground search and rescue team found MacInnis’ body Sunday.

“The missing person, John MacInnis, was located in the morning in the Bayers Lake area,” he said.

A ground search and rescue team found MacInnis’ body behind the recycling depot on Chain Lake Drive.

McCoombs says the team had focused its efforts on the area, about two kilometres from MacInnis’ home, based on tips from the public.

“We’ve been concentrating on the Bayers Lake – upper Clayton Park area because we’d gotten some preliminary reports that maybe there was a sighting in that area,” he said.

MacInnis suffered from dementia and his family feared he’d gotten disoriented and lost.

McCoombs says there’s no indication “whatsoever” of foul play. An autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death.
