Hundreds attend hearing on seniors’ apartment complex

City officials are considering a second public hearing on a new seniors complex after dozens didn’t get the chance to speak at the first.
About 150 people came to a meeting Wednesday night to offer an opinion on Spirit Place, the affordable housing complex building proposed for the corner of Willow and Windsor streets.
The Herald reports 30 people were still waiting to speak when the meeting ended at 9 p.m.
Developers need a zoning change to go ahead with the seven-storey project but most local residents told city planners that’s too big for the neighbourhood.
Architects say the building has to be seven stories tall to be viable.
City staffers are now preparing a report for council.
