Second public session tonight to improve public transit in HRM

The second in a set of three public hearings on building a better transportation network in HRM happens Tuesday.
The goal is to try and raise awareness around the issues facing transit, and find out what the public needs to improve quality of life.
The session will feature a presentation by Dr. Ahsan Habib, a transportation planner and professor at Dalhousie University followed by an opportunity for attendees to work in groups to help design their optimal public transit network.
He tells Maritime Morning’s Jordi Morgan they’re examining all aspects of the issue.
“What will our transit network be in the future? What kind of buses should we use? What kind of other technology should we explore like commuter rail or fast rail?” says Habib.
Jonathan Lampier is the director of urban development with FUSION Halifax.
He says it’s an opportunity for more involvement.
“The city’s normal consultation process isn’t always the most exciting thing,” explains Lampier. “FUSION has always tried to make things more engaging for the public and for our demographics – the 20’s to 40’s – and make it more appealing for them instead of going to the regular public information meeting.”
The session runs from 6 p.m to 8 p.m at the World Trade and Convention Centre.
