Several weapons charges have been laid and more charges may be pending after a cab driver was stabbed in the chest Sunday night while trying to help two women in Clayton Park.
Police say two women were driving when they noticed they were being followed by four unknown men in another vehicle around 11:30 p.m.
The women pulled into the Clayton Park Shopping Plaza at 278 Lacewood Drive where they noticed a group of taxi drivers and asked for help.
“A confrontation ensued between the cab drivers and one of the suspect male occupants of the vehicle,” Sgt. Greg Robertson told News 95.7. “During that altercation a 31-year-old male taxi driver received a stab wound to his upper chest area.”
Robertson says the driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and was in stable condition as of Monday morning.
“During the same altercation another occupant picked up, what’s described as, a piece of construction debris with the intent of striking another taxi driver,” he added.
The occupants of the vehicle fled the scene, only to be followed by the taxi drivers, to an address in the 100 block of Old Sambro Road.
Police responded to both the shopping plaza parking lot and the Old Sambro Road address where they arrested two men and two male youths.
A 24-year-old Halifax man has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapons dangerous to the public and obstruction of justice.
Police reported he was to be released from custody Monday morning on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
“We’re still interviewing additional suspects and at this point and potentially there will be additional charges laid,” said Sgt. Robertson.
He added it’s early in the investigation and police have not uncovered a motive for the attack.
