Three Nova Scotia universities are collaborating on offering students a PhD in educational studies.
Acadia, St. Francis Xavier and Mount St. Vincent have partnered to train researchers who will examine what works in Nova Scotia for schools.
The dean of education at Mount St. Vincent University said the cooperation between the three universities provides a strong research base for the program.
“How to create a better society, to create a better future together,” Dr. Jim Sharpe told News 95.7. “I think what the program provides is that level of advanced research and documentation to show how we can achieve that goal.”
He points to a practical example of how one graduate plans to better education for African Nova Scotians.
“She’s very interested in storytelling and the importance of storytelling to the African Nova Scotian community,” said Sharpe. “How the community has survived because of the strength of the stories and more than that, how those stories are being told nationally.”
Sharpe added the program is broad in scope and said there are other students who are studying literature and science in the media.
