Halifax would use a 10,000 seat stadium

It’s the first major step towards Halifax getting a new, all-purpose, sports stadium.  An initial feasibility report suggsts HRM could use a stadium with 10,000 permanent seats and the capacity to expand the seating to double that size if the situation calls for it.

With a stadium that size, Halifax would be able to host numerous events, like the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015.  Right now, Halifax is in the running to be a host city, but the winner will have to demonstrate the ability to host an event for 20,000 people.

City staff are recommending the report be taken to the next phase to determine a possible location for the stadium and how much building it would cost.

Council will talk about the initial report at Tuesday’s meeting.
