Petition launched to get Bobbitt maximum sentence

PENTICTON (NEWS1130) – A petition is being circulated calling for the maximum sentence for the suspect in last week’s vicious sexual assault in Penticton.

David Wesley Bobbitt was arrested earlier this week, and friends of the 22-year-old victim don’t want to see him out on the streets.

Organizers, like Marissa Hilton McPherson, are hoping to gather as many signatures as possible.

She’s good friends with the victim and says men like Bobbitt, who have a history of violence, should never be allowed out on the streets.  “Make sure he doesn’t slip through the cracks and he gets the maximum sentence that he deserves.  At times I wish we had the death sentence.”

“The courts do rely on the people and everybody’s opinion will somehow help with the decision because we do live in a democracy.”

The victim was beaten and sexually assaulted for hours in front of her 22-month-old son.  Bobbitt, who was arrested after a nation-wide manhunt, remains in custody as he undergoes a 30-day psychiatric assessment.
