There’s just a couple of weeks to go until you can put a lot more plastics into your blue bag.
As of September 1, all plastic containers except styrofoam can be put out for curbside pickup with your other recyclables.
Currently, only plastics with a 1 or 2 on the bottom are recyclable, but the changes will include yogurt and margarine containers, ice cream tubs and detergent bottles as well.
HRM spokesperson Michaelynn Thompson tells Metro Halifax the changes are a result of expanded markets for recycled plastics and upgraded infrastructure, calling this the “logical next step” in a long-term plan for greater diversion.
