Halifax seeks public input on proposed district boundary changes

Halifax city hall wants to hear from voters on proposed municipal district boundary changes.
The municipality’s website is promoting an online survey that’s to be available until September 9th.
It’s hooked to the next election in October 2012 and the fact Halifax Regional Municipality must cut the number of regional council members to 16, plus the mayor.
Council is to consider revised district boundaries based on 16 geographical districts in the municipality.
Purcell’s Cove – Armdale councilor Linda Mosher thinks the drafts are contrary to scenarios that were discussed before the review board got involved and isn’t thrilled with what she’s seen.
“It’s completely different from what staff generated based on our consultant and based on the public consultation throughout the municipality,” she says. “And not just the district I represent but others there’s school boundaries and traffic and development issues.”
There are currently 23 councilors, plus Mayor Peter Kelly.
Kelly says the proposed new boundaries will be submitted to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board in early November.
