Operation Fall Back aims to keep down the noise and public drunkeness

Halifax Police are launching Operation Fall Back again this year. It’s the annual campaign, launched Labor Day Weekend that aims to reduce noise, property damage and public intoxication during the first month of school.
It means there will be more patrol cars in high complaint areas, namely the South End.
South End Councillor Sue Uteck says it’s just something the city has to deal with. “There are approximately 18 to 20 thousand students moving in and out,” she says. “I was down at the grocery store and it seemed at least ten times as busy and the beer store looked like it was overflowing. So, here we go!”
Operation Fall Back starts officially on September 5th and runs until October. Uteck says everyone is getting involved to make sure there is a smooth transition.
“Regional police are out there now, introducing themselves to students,” she says “We have a brochure about living within the community to tell the neighbours how to file a noise complaint or charges or what to do.”
Uteck says it’s only about ten percent of the students who end up being problems.
