Halifax to host third International Security Forum

Halifax will be welcoming the world’s top security agents and millions of dollars in federal funding when the International Security Forum gets underway in November.

Minister of National Defence Peter MacKay announced the third annual forum will be held in Halifax at the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel from November 18 to 20.

“At a time of year when the city’s tourism is starting to slow down, this forum provides activities, revenue for restaurants, hotels, taxi drivers,” said MacKay during a press conference at the Westin Hotel Tuesday. “All of this will certainly get a boost and it puts Halifax on the lips of decision makers around the globe.”

MacKay also announced the federal government is investing $2.5 million annually for the next three years in the event.

Approximately 300 high-profile security agents from about 40 different countries are expected to attend.

Some of the main topics on this year’s agenda will be the 10 year anniversary of the 9-11 terror attacks, Canada transition to a non-combat role in Afghanistan, and the uprising in the Middle East and North Africa.

This year, the forum will be partnering with Foreign Affairs Magazine.
