A man is dead after a bizarre incident off the Prospect Road Thursday morning. It happened around 9:30 near the Irving gas station at Evergreen Place.
Police spokesperson Brian Palmeter says “early indication are that a man was observed getting a can of gasoline. And when he pulled out, we believe there was an explosion as soon as he pulled out onto the roadway.”
The car then lost control and careened into a pole.
Palmeter says the accident serves as a reminder to people about how to properly transport gasoline, making sure it’s secure and in the trunk of the vehicle and never in the interior space.
An eyewitness on the scene tried to help the victim escape, but tells News 95.7 the flames were too hot and too large to do anything.
The victim died on the scene. No names or details are being released.
