Canucks pare down roster for main training camp

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver Giants goalie Brendan Jensen was among eight players released by the Vancouver Canucks after the young stars tournament in Penticton. The team will have 62 players report to main camp.

The 30 prospects finished the Okanagan event with a 2-2 record. In addition to Jensen, defencemen Craig Duinink and Ian Saab were let go. Forwards that were released were centres Michael Curtis and Ryan Harrison, as well as right wingers Jonathan Lessard, Andrew Smith, and Steven Janes.  All eight players were at camp on a tryout basis.

Four players that were not drafted or signed by the Canucks will move on to the main camp on Saturday at Rogers Arena. Surrey Eagles goalie Karel St. Laurent,  defenceman Marc Anthony Zanetti and forwards Nathan Longpre and Antoine Roussel will get another look by Canucks brass. Roussel was born in Roubaix, France.

The team has forty veterans scheduled to be at the rink for medical evaluations and physical testing on Friday. The 22 prospects will join them on the ice on Saturday morning.
