Latest sleepwatcher suspect released

Halifax police have picked up a suspect in what might be another sleep watching incident.
The man arrested in the vicinity of what may be the latest sleep-watching incident in South End Halifax has been released without charges this morning.
The man was held for questioning for 24 hours before being released.
People in the Dalhousie community say they trust Halifax Regional Police are doing all they can on the case.
“I trust the police on this one. I hope they know what they’re doing,” said one woman while walking her dog. “I hope they released him because they don’t have enough evidence. Knowing the police they’re probably going to keep an eye on him and hope it doesn’t continue to occur.”
A young woman called police to a residence in the 6100-block of South Street 5:20 a.m. Thursday.
The woman said a man got into her apartment through a unlocked door. When she woke up and saw him, she called police. The man fled.
Const. Brian Palmeter said based on the woman’s description they picked up a suspect nearby.
“Obviously, we’re looking to see if there’s a connection with any other case in the area over the last number of years,” said Palmeter.
There have been at least 20 so-called sleep watching incidents over the years.
“I’m still scared,” said one area resident who admits she and her roommates each keep a bat by their beds. “I think about it all the time. I live in the area where it’s always happening. It’s always in the back of my head.”
