Regulated gas prices fall by just over two cents

Regulated gas prices have fallen a little more than expected this week.

The Utility and Review Board has set the price for regular self-serve at $1.285 in metro, a drop of 2.1 cents from Thursday.

Diesel prices went up by nearly three cents a litre to $1.297 in metro.

The increase can be partly attributed to a general upwards trend in distillate fuel prices.

Home heating oil prices will start to rise as winter sets in and there’s more demand for diesel because retailers are starting to bulk up their inventory for the Christmas shopping season, meaning increased shipping volumes.

At this time last year we were paying $1.08 for gas and $1.049 for diesel. Oil was selling for $81.69 U.S. a barrel, compared to Thursday’s close of $85.30.
