Murder charge laid in Springhill woman’s death

RCMP say an 18-year-old man has been charged in the death of a woman found dead in her Springhill mobile home.

The teen walked into a Springhill police station at 2:53 a.m. Monday and told police “an incident had occured” at a mobile home on Mechanic Street.

“When police arrived at the residence they found the body of a Springhill woman, deceased inside her residence,” Sgt. Bridgit Leger told News 95.7. “The 18-year-old Springhill man was taken into custody.”

Zachary Quinn Brake, 18, was charged with second-degree murder. The victim has been identified as Tracy Ann Rudderham, 37.

Leger says no details are being released about the cause of death at this time, but says an autopsy will be performed today in Halifax.

She wouldn’t say what the relationship is between Brake and Rudderham.

“What I can confirm is that this was not a random act of violence. The suspect and the deceased were known to each other and resided in the same residence,” said Leger.

Brake is expected in Amherst provincial court this morning.
