Time to winterize vehicles

Halifax’s top traffic cop is urging motorists to winterize their vehicles before the first snowfall of the season.
About four centimetres of snow fell in Yarmouth on Thursday night, while Halifax was spared its first brush with winter.
Sgt. David Reynolds says we may have dodged this bullet, but warns that winter is setting in – and motorists should be prepared
“Get winter-ready, folks,” said Reynolds. “Get the winter wiper blades on, make sure you have a scraper or a brush in your car to clean your windows and your roof to see properly outside of your vehicle.
“Probably one of the most important things you can have on your car when things turn white are snow tires,” he said. “Good snow tires, too.”
The assistant manager at Coast Tire in Halifax said drivers should start thinking about winterizing their vehicles anytime after October 15.
Myril Wells says that’s when the temperature is consistently colder and all-season tires do not flex as well as winter tires in colder temperatures.
He said business has picked up suddenly in the last week and the auto shop is now booking a week in advance.
