Heavy rainfall drenches Maritimes; snow buries northeastern U.S.

Heavy rainfall is dousing much of the Maritimes today, with snow projected in parts of New Brunswick.
Environment Canada posted rainfall warnings that call for between 50 and 70 millimeters of rain in Nova Scotia, southern New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
A low pressure system near Cape Hatteras was expected to intensify as it moved towards the Maritimes, bringing the precipitation and strong coastal winds.
Parts of New Brunswick are also under a snowfall warning, with Fredericton and area expecting up to 15 centimetres of snow.
Meanwhile, more than 2.3 million homes and businesses are without power in the northeastern U.S. as the region takes a hard hit from en early snowstorm.
The power failure stretches from Maryland to Massachusetts.
Worst hit appears to be the New Jersey town of West Milford, which has been buried by 40-centimetres of snow.
