Daylight time shift could affect overnight workers’ pay

If you’re working the overnight shift when the clock rolls back this weekend, you could find yourself working through an extra hour that doesn’t really exist on the clock.

The Labour Department says how you get paid for that depends on your situation.

In a unionized workplace, the collective agreement should address it. For non-unionized hourly workers, you should be paid for the number of hours you work. If you’re on salary, that’s probably covered under the terms of employment.

The ministry’s best advice is to check with your boss beforehand.
