Robbery possible motive for Dartmouth murder

Major crime investigators are still considering the motive behind another murder in HRM.

A woman, believed to be in her 70s, was found dead in her home on Jackson Road in Dartmouth Friday afternoon. Her death is being treated as a homicide.

Cst. Brian Palmeter tells News 95.7 investigators are working to find out when she was last seen alive.

“They’re still following up, speaking to witnesses, neighbours, anybody that might have been in the area, and they’re asking anyone that might have seen anything around this home, which was 59 Jackson Road, to contact police,” he said.

Palmeter says a local resident called police after spotting the back door of the victim’s home open. He says that open door provides investigators with a small clue about the timeline of the events surrounding the woman’s murder.

“There’s no sense that (the door) was open for a long period of time because we think people would have called us sooner had they noticed the door open,” he said.

Palmeter says investigators are waiting for the medical examiner to positively identify the victim before releasing her name to the public.

He says the open door suggests the woman may have been the victim of a home invasion and robbery.
