Teen shooting suspect remanded

The teen charged in connection with HRM’s first shooting of the year will spend at least another week behind bars.

Jerrell Ervin Shephard, 18, of Lakeside, has been remanded until a bail hearing on Jan. 16.

The Chronicle Herald reports duty defence lawyer asked the court to put off the bail hearing until Jan. 16 to give Shephard time to prepare a release plan.

Shephard is facing 14 charges, including attempted murder, related to the shooting at the Dartmouth Sportsplex bus terminal New Year’s Day. He turned himself into police Friday after police identified him as a suspect.

Kyle Gallupe,16, was shot twice around 12:30 a.m. after an argument with another man. He was shot in the head and the chest, but is expected to make a full recovery.
