Targeted shooting in Surrey

SURREY (NEWS1130) – Less than one week after a deadly-double shooting, a man is in hospital following more gun violence in Surrey.  It happened just before midnight around 93rd Avenue and 138th Street.

Mounties say the 22-year-old was shot multiple times while walking near Surrey Memorial Hospital.  Before being taken in for surgery he told investigators who shot him.  With some details on the shooter, police found the suspect vehicle abandoned, but the man nowhere to be found.

The victim has a criminal record, but it’s unclear if he is linked to gangs.  Witnesses in the area say they heard between five and seven shots.

With shootings becoming more frequent around the Lower Mainland some people are pessimistic that local governments can do more to curb the violence.  “I think they are doing the best they can do with what they got.  Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.”

The victim is in serious but stable condition.  No arrests have been made.
