Man killed walking across highway

Police are investigating a collision that killed a man walking across Highway 102 early Wednesday morning.

The outbound lanes of the highway were closed for nearly five hours while traffic analysts examined the scene and investigators tried to determine what the man was doing on the city’s busiest stretch of roadway.

Halifax Regional Police Staff Seargent Barb Saunders tells News 95.7 that police received a call around 2:00 a.m.

“We responded to the 102 just at the Lacewood ramp, where the vehicle was located on the highway and a pedestrian had been struck,” she said. “”The male (pedestrian) was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Saunders added that the driver called police immediately after hitting the man, and was treated for shock when officers arrived.

The highway was reopened before 7:00 a.m.
