Halifax police will ride again

Halifax Regional Police have found some money to help keep their bicycle and mounted divisions in action.
Spokesperson Cst. Brian Palmeter told the Chronicle Herald the department is expecting an increase in revenue due to officers being seconded to UN missions or the Department of Justice.
The bike and horse patrols were on the chopping block as the Department looks to find $2.25 million in savings in the 2012-13 budget.
The secondments are contributing about $163,000 and will go toward funding the mounted divisions. The projected police budget for this fiscal year is nearly $72 million. The mounted and cycling components cost $31,700.
Palmeter told the paper, people would notice a difference on the street if the two beat patrols were cut.
