It appears the man found murdered in Montague Gold Mines had ties to organized crime.
James Alexander Lyle, known as Sandy, was found dead on the side of Montague Road late Sunday night and RCMP have confirmed he was murdered.
“The autopsy has revealed that 55-year-old James Alexander Sandy Lyle of Dartmouth died as a result of a gunshot wound,” said Cst. Tammy Lobb.
Lyle was one of 20 people arrested in a 2001 police raid on the Hells’ Angels clubhouse in Halifax.
He also has two criminal convictions for drug trafficking and has spent time in federal prison.
RCMP investigators didn’t find any drugs at Lyle’s home on Cannon Terrace in Dartmouth, but Lobb says a firearm has been recovered and will be tested to find out if it was used in the murder.
She would not say where the gun was found.
Lobb says investigators are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious on Montague Road or Cannon Terrace to contact police.
