Bachelor Canada looking for Bachelorettes in Halifax

The American version is a hit, and producers of the Bachelor Canada are hoping their version will be just as successful.
“We’re going to for the first time have a Canadian Bachelor and 25 Canadian bachelorettes all competing for love,” says show producer Sean De Vries. “Hopefully it will end with a romance.”
Casting calls for the City TV production were held Tuesday at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel. Filming of the show is set to begin this spring, but the Bachelor hasn’t been chosen yet.
“We have (the candidates) short listed,” De Vries says. “We have a few we love, but we haven’t made an announcement. That will be in the coming weeks.”
Even without knowing who the primetime hunk will be, Dana Hill, 36, is still thrilled with the idea of being a contestant on the show.
“Obviously they’re going to pick a guy who is financially stable,” she says. “His appearance, he’s going to be looking great and he’ll have great morals and values. Have a good family life. And, he’ll be ready to settle down.”
Auditions for the show were held in only six Canadian cities, with Halifax being the last stop. Angie Smith, 32, wasn’t able to try out in her hometown.
“I want this so bad that I flew all the way from St. John’s Newfoundland to (Halifax) to audition for this,” Smith says. “I feel like (the Bachelor) is out there looking for me and I just need to give him some help to find me. So here I am.”
24-year-old Sara, who works for an insurance company, was also at Tuesday’s auditions in Halifax. She’s trying out because she hasn’t been lucky in love in the past, and thinks this is a great opportunity to find ‘the one’.
“I always seem to find jerks and then find out things afterward,” she says. “Here, they do all the background work for you. To make sure he’s a great guy.”
As for what traits she’s hoping the Canadian Bachelor will have…
“I just want to meet a smoking hot guy,” she says. “And funny’s huge. Funny, generous, outgoing, fun, spontaneous, honest.”
