Snow storm roaring towards N.S.

March is coming in like a lion this year, with a winter storm set to hammer the Maritimes.
Flurries are expected to begin falling this afternoon throughout southern Nova Scotia. Environment Canada has issued a number of weather advisories for the next 24 hours.
There are snowfall warnings for Lunenburg, Queens and Digby Counties, with 15 centimetres of snow expected. Winter storm warnings have also been issued for Shelburne and Yarmouth Counties, with 25 to 30 centimetres in the forecast.
News 95.7 meteorologist Richard Zurawski say metro Halifax will get five to 10 centimetres of snow tonight, and another two to four centimetres Friday morning.
“The [Thursday] drive home might be a little dicey,” Zurawski said. “The snow flurries will be starting, with blowing and drifting snow and the winds gusting. It could be potentially slow out there because of the white outs and the snow accumulation.”
He also said Friday morning’s commute will be messy.
“Tomorrow morning’s not going to be good. We’re looking at blowing and drifting snow, and total accumulations should be in the vicinity of 15 to 20 centimetres.”
Zurawski says he was surprised at how quickly this storm system has grown.
“It was quite a significant storm down in the southern states and then skirted southern Ontario without doing too much there,” he said. “But it’s reintensified as it’s moved back into the Maritimes.”
No official announcement has been made about HRM’s overnight winter parking ban yet. If enforced, drivers will have to keep their cars off the road between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. to avoid having their vehicle ticketed or towed.
